Bakers Field, Michigan's first licensed airport, was built in 1938 and closed in 1976. Port Huron Township acquired the property in 2003 with the intention of developing it into a park. Marlies Manning guided the township in developing a program for Bakers Field and to build consensus between the public, the adjacent neighborhood, municipal offices, and private clubs as to the future use of the park. Manning Design crafted a Master Plan which includes nature trails, disc golf, picnic areas, a small boat launch, fishing access sites, and paved walking trails.
